Our Boy is Here!
He's here!
Maxwell Samuel Wehry, July 8th, 2021. 2:35pm. 6 lbs. 4 oz. 19 in. and already so loved! Here’s a bit of his story at 37 weeks:
Yesterday was full of curveballs.
Some of the surprises weren't so great, but they all ended with smiles and tears of joy. Because of an impending hurricane, my weekly morning appoint was rescheduled for the afternoon, so Nick couldn't join. The “routine” ultrasound turned out to be anything but routine, as it revealed that my amniotic fluids were getting low. Our son had a heartbeat, and there was movement, but it looked like his pool was getting smaller.
After the ultrasound tech left, the doctor came in and — in a complete turn of events — suggested, to best avoid potential complications that come with low amniotic fluid (and given that he’s considered full term) it was safest to “just have the baby.”
Stunned, I called (and blindsided!) Nick with the news, with the doctor on speakerphone. We decided to follow her guidelines, and I waddled my shocked butt across the hospital campus and checked in for Labor and Delivery. Nick cut his day early to run home, figure our a puppy sitter, pack our hospital bags, and meet me at the hospital.
Labor and Delivery
Long story short, I got to experience all the "wonders" of contractions 🤬, but was ultimately taken for a C-section out of concerns regarding the low fluid levels and possible stress on the baby.
Happy, Healthy, and Hungry
Despite a shaky start, our baby boy was delivered just perfectly. Nick was the most supportive and reassuring partner I could have ever asked for, as he kept me calm (even laughing!) through some of the scariest moments… I fell even more in love with him through the birth of our little man.
The kids (Nick’s 3- and 6-year-old son and daughter) can’t wait to meet him, either! Updates to follow :)
