Engaged One Month
On April 25th, 2021, my best friend and the love of my life asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. But first, he ate 50 hardboiled eggs in 3 minutes and change to set a World Record.
Back to Vegas!
The Oscar-themed, multi-contest Draft Kings Red Carpet Film Feast was a much welcome break in the Covid contest lull, and it brought Nick and I back to Vegas! (Well, he was invited to compete in the World Hardboiled Egg Eating Championship (a nod to the egg-eating scene in Oscar-nominated film, Cool Hand Luke), and I tagged along as Best Supporting Girlfriend. (Major League Eating asked if, time permitting, I might be interested in playing the role of “red carpet correspondent” for the Live Stream, so there was some discussion about my participation, but I was mainly going along to cheer on Nick.)
It’s Just Eggs…
With competitors divided amongst four contests (popcorn, eggs, soda in Vegas; Sweet Corn in Florida), Nick was the favorite going into his event: a first-to-finish, Hardboiled Egg Eating Contest against Matt Hazzard and Michelle Lesco. Still, he seemed oddly nervous.
In just 3 minutes, Nick downed all 50 eggs and earned a World Record, as the official Hard Boiled Egg Eating Champion. (I wasn’t surprised that he won, but little did I know, the surprises hadn’t even yet begun…)
“How Do You Feel?”
Keeping with the Oscars theme, Major League Eating had asked me to “interview” the competitors before and after the contest, so when Nick won, I joined the stage and awkwardly asked him, “How do you feel?”
What ensued was the sweetest, most unexpected, most on-brand proposal ever. And luckily, Draft Kings was streaming for all of the internet to witness! Check it out:
Will You Marry Me?
Turns out, everyone was in on it, and I still can't believe Nick pulled this off without me suspecting a thing! Of course, I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough, and I’m so thankful that I get to do forever with my best friend.
